Beth Lipman and Ingalena Klenell Collaborate on Work for Future MOG Exhibition
January 20 – 24 and 27 – 31, 2010
MOG welcomes Beth Lipman
(Sheboygan, WI) and Ingalena Klenell (Sunne, Sweden) to the Hot Shop for a two-week Visiting Artist residency beginning Wednesday, January 20. During this session, the two artists will work on elements for Glimmering Gone, an exhibition organized by MOG opening in October, 2010.
Lipman is known for her interpretations of Dutch, Italian, and American still life paintings in hand-sculpted glass. Banketje (2003), her lavish banquet table adorned with 400 glass objects, was on display in the Museum’s Grand Hall in 2006. Klenell’s work is primarily sculptural and is inspired by folk art, craft and nature. Their work for this exhibition marks their first artistic collaboration.
Glimmering Gone
will comprise three large-scale vignettes of primarily colorless glass. Landscape is a floor-to-ceiling scenic glass environment based on the paintings of Tacoman Abby Williams Hill (1861-1943); Memento is a collection of glass objects based on antiquated household objects; and Artifact features a wall embedded with fractured glass components. Combined, the three installations will evoke connections between nature and collective and personal memory.
